On Tuesday morning in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Naveen Shekharappa, a medical student from Karnataka, lost his life. Naveen is from Chalagere village in Ranebennur taluk in Haveri, according to the Chief Minister’s Office, and he has been studying medicine at the Kharkiv National Medical University for the past four years. Naveen had exited the Arkhitektora Beketova Metro station shelter to carry groceries when he was killed in a shell bombardment on Kharkiv’s streets. A buddy of his who is a first-year medical student broke the news of his death to his family.
“We confirm, with great sadness, that an Indian student was killed in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. His family has been contacted by the Ministry “Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated.
The corpse of Naveen has been sent to a morgue in Kharkiv. The body cannot be returned promptly because it is in a conflict zone. The MEA has stated that every effort would be done to preserve the body and that plans will be made to return it.
