Overnight, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, released a new video message in which he expressed cautious hope about ongoing peace talks with Russia.

He argued that Russia was realising that victory would not be won on the battlefield.

“They have already realised that war would not achieve anything”, Zelensky remarked.

“If you surrender to our soldiers, we will treat you the way people are supposed to be treated”, the president spoke directly to Russian troops.

Zelensky also thanked the woman who ran onto the set of a Russian evening news show on state-controlled Channel 1 with an anti-war banner.
