Harbhajan Singh, one of India’s finest offspinners, has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, the former India international disclosed on Twitter on Friday.

‘I tested positive for COVID despite having minor symptoms. I have isolated myself at home and am taking all required measures,’ Harbhajan stated. ‘I would urge everybody who has come into contact with me to be tested as soon as possible. Please be cautious and safe’, Harbhajan wrote.

‘After being so careful and trying to avoid this awful thing for two years, the virus finally reached us’, Harbhajan’s wife said on Instagram, confirming her own COVID-19 infection.

Last month, the Turbanator announced his retirement from the game, capping up a glittering 23-year career in which he was a member of the World Cup-winning side in 2011 and took 711 wickets across all three forms.

Singh is the first Indian bowler to record a Test hattrick, and he was also awarded the Padma Sri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2009.

The Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians won the 2011 Champions League T20 under his captaincy.

He has played 367 international matches for the Men in Blue and has scored over 3000 runs.
