1 min read

Rome (Italy) – Giorgia Meloni, head of the far-right Brothers of Italy party and likely to become Italy’s first female prime minister, said voters had given the right-wing a clear mandate to rule and that she would lead a government for all Italians.

Meloni was addressing at her party’s election night campaign center in Rome, after projections showed the Brothers of Italy had won the most votes in Sunday’s elections, with 26 percent. Its coalition allies, hardliner Matteo Salvini’s League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forward Italy are anticipated to win 8.7 percent and 8.2 percent of the vote, respectively, ensuring the alliance a parliamentary majority.
