The governing body of motorsport, the FIA, criticised Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Tuesday, but stated Russian and Belarusian drivers may still compete in neutral capacity.
Following an unusual meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council, the verdict was revealed (WMSC).
The participation of any Russian and Belarussian drivers, individual competitors, and authorities, even in a neutral role, was subject to a “particular promise and respect to the FIA’s principles of peace and political neutrality”, according to the statement.
The conference also confirmed that this year’s Russian Grand Prix will be cancelled.
