FC Goa’s faint playoff aspirations were kept alive with a five-star performance against Chennaiyin FC. After Makan Chothe (6th) began the scoring for the Gaurs, Jorge Ortiz (20th, 41st, and 53rd) scored a hat-trick. Chothe volleyed the ball first time into the back of the goal after Edu Bedia slid a pass to Aiban Dohling. To complete the thrashing, Narayan Das (45th OG) placed the ball in his own net. Debjit Majumder deflected Edu Bedia’s header to safety in the goalless draw. Goa added on the agony with two more goals before the halftime whistle, as Chennaiyin struggled to seize control of the game and showed practically little danger in the attacking third.
After the effervescent Dohling went past a few players to shove the ball into the path of the Spaniard, who’s magnificent first touch pulled the ball away from Narayan as he sprinted forward to blast home from close, Ortiz capped his stunning display with his first hat-trick of the season. Noguera sent in a wonderful pass inside the box on the stroke of halftime, and an under-pressure.
