#Elon Musk’s Twitter Inc. has reportedly contacted dozens of the sacked employees inviting them to apply for employment again, according to Bloomberg, just two days after cutting roughly 50% of its workforce.
In accordance with the report that was published on Sunday, some of the people who were asked to return had been fired “by error.” The story also claims, citing informed sources, that additional employees have been invited to reapply once management realized that these individuals are required to construct new features that the Tesla CEO has envisioned.
The corporation recently let go 50% of its workforce, including the whole human rights team and “all but two of the ethical AI team,” which UN human rights chief Volker Turk criticized in an open letter as not an “encouraging start.”
According to sources, employees of the social media company’s product and engineering teams, as well as teams in charge of communications, content curation, human rights, and machine learning ethics, had all been fired.
Twitter dismissed about 3,700 employees this week by email after being acquired by Musk in an effort to cut costs. The “reduction in force,” according to Musk in a tweet, was necessary because of the significant losses his newly acquired company is suffering. When a company is losing more than $4 million a day, there isn’t much of a choice, he wrote in regard to Twitter’s force reduction.
Additionally, he stated that the terminated workers were given severance pay that was “50% more than legally necessary.” Bloomberg, however, reports that many workers were first made aware of their termination when access to company-wide networks, such as email, and Slack, was abruptly suspended.
