In 2019, Pakistan’s debt-to-GDP ratio was 86 percent, the highest in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC) area. Pakistan has the third-highest debt service, accounting for roughly 7% of the overall CAREC region’s debt service in 2020, or USD 15 billion. COVID-19 has the largest direct health expenses, estimated at USD 2,019 million in Pakistan. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan’s party, is facing a no-confidence resolution in the National Assembly.
