Russian and Canadian women’s ice hockey players donned medical face masks during their Beijing Winter Olympics match on Monday, which also began an hour late.
The reasons for the delay and the masks were not immediately evident, although the Olympics are being held in a Covid-secure “closed loop” bubble.
Everyone in the bubble is required to wear a mask at all times, save when competing.
The International Olympic Committee did not immediately reply to AFP’s requests for information, although it had previously stated that the Group A game at Wukesong Sports Centre had been “delayed until further notice”.
According to government estimates, there have been 387 positive cases in the bubble since January 23.
