Don’t expect miracles from a single meeting of peace negotiators, Turkey warns.

Despite the fact that peace negotiations between Ukraine’s and Russia’s foreign ministers in Turkey failed to produce any results, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu thinks the meetings were “an essential start.” Cavusoglu told Turkey’s Haberturk news station that “miracles should not be anticipated in one meeting.” The talks today were the first high-level engagement between the two countries since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
“Despite all the challenges,” Cavusoglu remarked, “I can state that a courteous meeting took place.” “We emphasised the need of keeping humanitarian routes accessible and free of impediments.”
Turkey has attempted to maintain a neutral stance in the war, owing to strategic links with both Ukraine and Russia. Officials have sharply condemned Russia’s incursion but have ruled out implementing sanctions.
