Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu: AIADMK Criticises State Government for failing to close Liquor Stores Despite the rise in fresh Cases

In Tamil Nadu, the opposition AIADMK has slammed the DMK administration for failing to close Tasmac liquor stores and bars despite the state having a single-day total of figure of 24,000 new Covid cases. Former chief minister and AIADMK chairman EK Palaniswami said in a statement on Wednesday that the DMK administration should close all Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) liquor stores and bars in the state immediately.
“The DMK is a political party with duplicity, when it was in opposition, it held dharnas and organised agitations against the establishment of Tasmac outlets, at a time when the state was reporting approximately 775 Covid instances per day in May 2020,” Palaniswami stated, according to news agency IANS. He said that the DMK administration is not paying attention to popular pressure to close Tasmac liquor stores in order to assist control the virus’s spread.
The number of Covid cases on Wednesday increased the state’s over all cases to 30,14,235. In the last 24 hours, 35 people died out of Covid that brings the total death toll to 37,073. Chennai had the most fresh cases (8,007), Coimbatore (3,082), Chengalpet (2,194), Kanyakumari (1,008), and the rest were spread among various districts.
