1 min read

According to the Health Ministry, India’s drug regulator has granted regular market approval for the COVID-19 vaccines Covishield and Covaxin for the usage in the adult population, subject to certain conditions. The ministry also stated that the government’s vaccination campaign will continue to provide first and second doses for everyone, as well as a precautionary dose for seniors.

Soon after the approval, the sources stated that the two vaccines will be available in private clinics at a predetermined price and that people will be able to purchase them. They also stated that the vaccine will gradually become available in the market at a lower price than it was previously sold at private hospitals.

The approval was granted in accordance with the 2019 New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules. Under the terms, the companies must submit data based on the ongoing clinical trials and vaccines to be supplied for programmatic setting, as well as record all vaccinations performed in the country on the CoWIN platform.
