Joe Biden, the president of the United States, met with Pakistani officials in Islamabad today to speak about Pakistan’s initiatives to combat Islamic extremists on its border with Afghanistan. President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s will to battle to eradicate extremists and terrorists on Pakistani territory in a statement following his discussions with Biden. He stated that extremists pose a threat to Pakistan after discussions with Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Biden added, “We know there are people who think that by fighting Al-Qaeda, America has inflicted war on Pakistan. However, violent radicals pose a menace to all of civilized society, including Pakistan in addition to the United States”. Biden was anticipated to urge the military leadership to initiate an operation against terrorists in North Waziristan, which is said to be the major stronghold for Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces, during discussions with the army head, General Ashfaq Kayani, later today.
