Biden Calls Benjamin Netanyahu “Friend”, Vows To Press “2-State Solution”

US  President Joe Biden said on Thursday that he would cooperate with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, referring to him as his “friend,” but vowed to reject any measures that may jeopardize a two-state solution with the Palestinians.

“I look forward to working with Prime Minister Netanyahu, who has been my friend for decades, to jointly address the many challenges and opportunities facing Israel and the Middle East region, including threats from Iran,” Biden said a statement.

“As we have throughout my administration, the United States will continue to support the two-state solution and to oppose policies that endanger its viability or contradict our mutual interests and values.”

Netanyahu, who had a tense relationship with Barack Obama, the previous US president and a member of Biden’s Democratic Party, was inaugurated as leader of the most right-wing administration in Israel’s history on Thursday.

Extreme correct elements like Itamar Ben-Gvir, who once displayed a portrait of a shooter who murdered Palestinian worshipers in his house and who will now serve as national security minister, are part of Netanyahu’s sixth government.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared that the Biden administration would evaluate the cabinet based on its objectives rather than its members’ personalities when Netanyahu formed a coalition. A meeting between the foreign ministers of Israel and the Arab nations that recognize the Jewish state will be promptly scheduled, according to US sources, to persuade Netanyahu to be more reasonable.

Under Netanyahu, who saw the so-called Abraham Accords as his best achievement, three Arab countries, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco, normalized relations with Israel in 2020. At the time, President Donald Trump also shared this view.
