This year’s Oscars brought the reality of life beyond Hollywood’s bubble to the fore, with a plethora of stars showing solidarity for Ukraine on the red carpet. As he walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre, Jamie Lee Curtis discussed the value of a blue ribbon. A sequence of slides showed on the Dolby Theatre’s huge screen while everybody maintained stillness. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and his advisers are said to have lobbied with Academy Award members for a chance to speak at the event. Co-host Amy Schumer had already raised the matter, and actor Sean Penn threatened to spit up his Oscars if Zelensky wasn’t granted time on the show.
