Andhra Pradesh: Over 30 students fall ill due to hostel food in Chittoor district
At least 30 female students were hospitalised after becoming unwell after having lunch at their hostel in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The event occurred in the Akka Mahadevi hostel in the Kuppam township of Chittoor district.
It is believed that the students became unwell after eating meals at the hostel as part of their afternoon lunch.
The hostel is part of the Dravidian University, which is also located in the Kuppam municipality. Kuppam is the seat of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chairman Chandrababu Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh Opposition Leader.
Thirty pupils were admitted to the hospital for treatment, and 17 were later transferred to a private hospital for better care.
Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has asked the administration to give victims with sufficient and necessary medical care. He has also filed a letter to the district collector asking an investigation into the event and punishment against the perpetrators.
