Johnny Depp has not finished yet. The actor submitted paperwork to challenge a Virginia court’s finding that one of his attorneys had disparaged his ex-wife Amber Heard. After a six-week trial, the jury determined that Heard had defamed Depp and awarded Depp $10.35 million in damages in June of this year. Heard won her countersuit for $2 million after the jury determined that Depp had slandered her through his lawyer.

Depp allegedly argued on Wednesday that the ruling on Heard’s counterclaim should be overturned. He said that, overall, he was satisfied with the jury’s decision. According to records submitted by Depp, as reported by Fox News, “The jury’s emphatic favorable verdict on all three defamatory claims stated in his complaint entirely vindicated Mr. Depp and restored his reputation.”

However, the trial court had to make decisions on a number of innovative and complicated legal and factual problems, and while most of those decisions were wise and accurate, a few were incorrect. Heard has asserted that Depp was responsible for his attorney’s comments to a tabloid in 2020. Depp claimed that he was not responsible for the comments he had made because Adam Waldman, the attorney, had been hired on an independent contractor basis.

The decision against Mr. Depp cannot be upheld because there was no proof of Mr. Waldman’s actual malice shown at trial, according to the documents. Amber Heard filed an appeal in the Fairfax County Circuit Court in July after the verdict, claiming that she intended to contest the decision as well as any subsequent decisions. Her request for a new trial had been turned down by the court.
