Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin declared on Friday, February 25, that the state government will cover the expenditures of Tamil students returning from Ukraine.
Following Russia’s declaration of war on Ukraine, the Indian government established a 24-hour helpline to aid Indian students who are still stranded.
On Thursday, CM Stalin wrote to Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar, urging that the Indian government rescue Tamils who are stuck in Ukraine.
The MEA has established a 24-hour control centre in Delhi, and the following helpline lines are available: +911123012113, +911123914104, +911123017905, and 1800118797.
CM Stalin indicated in his letter yesterday that around 5,000 students and other TN immigrants are now in Ukraine. He also asked the Union Government to think about organising special mission planes to remove the trapped Indians.
“The State Government has created 24×7 help lines and a State Nodal Officer has also been constituted to enable evacuation of trapped Tamils in Ukraine to coordinate with the Government of India, their families, and local administration”, he said in his letter.
