A total ban on Russian energy would be disastrous for Europe, particularly Germany

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was “stuck” and that President Vladimir Putin needed to “hear the truth”.
He also cautioned that any notion of an immediate ban on Russian energy supply should be ignored because the consequences for Europe would be disastrous.
He stated that Germany was working to become independent of Russian energy supplies, but that “doing so from one day to the next would plunge our nation and the rest of Europe into a recession”.
He warned that “entire industries would be on the verge of collapsing”, and that existing anti-Russian sanctions were already having a significant impact on German residents.
