78 illegally built buildings are demolished in Hyderabad by Metropolitan Development Authority

            In the previous ten days, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has demolished 78 unlawful buildings and sealed 23 others as part of a crackdown on illegal construction.

The special drive began on January 17 and resulted in the demolition of illegal structures in Shankerpally, Pchampally, Narsingi, Dundigal, Manikonda, Kompally, Thumkunta, Shadnagar, Ibrahimpatnam, Thukuguda, Bandlaguda Jagir Corporation, Kothur Medhcal, Boduppal, Pedda Amberpet, Gudlapochampally municipalities, Nizampet municipal corporation, Turkayam.

The Times of India (TOI) quoted HMDA metropolitan commissioner and special chief secretary Arvind Kumar as saying, “In the first phase, HMDA has taken up demolition of major buildings that have come up in plots of 1,000 sq. yds and above, and so far, razed 78 structures and seized 23 buildings in various areas”.

“Special drives will be carried out in the future, and unauthorised structures built on smaller plots of 600 sq. yds and higher will be removed in stages”, Kumar stated.

Residential and commercial buildings, as well as storage areas and gas stations, are among the illegal structures.
